Descendants Rising

Today I thought I would work up to talking about something I have been working on. Descendants Rising is a graphic novel (and hopefully one day an animated project!) that I have been working on since 2012. Many of you are aware of this project already but for those of you new to it, I wanted to share with you my baby! I want to take the time and talk about this world I have created, so if you are interested, keep reading! If you are not interested, hey no hard feelings.

This story takes place in an alternate earth setting where a few conspiracies are real, certain ancient alien theories did happen for certain, and many myths and legends really took place. For the main setting, it takes place in the metropolis of Samsara. Samsara is broken up into six territories that include 5 cities/ towns and one nature reserve. The towns are Deva, Asura, Manav, Preta, and Naraka. The nature reserve is named Chikusho! There are many things the same in this world as ours, technology is a bit ahead, but we all deal with the same America (to an extent), same countries, same map so to speak. A major difference is this world is inhabited with humans with remarkable capabilities. Another thing that sets this universe apart from our own is there is a titleship  bestowed to the people of certain town sizes. This titleship is a bit like a Sheriff and a Deputy, however, they are above all law enforcement and Military when they are in their appointed towns. These titles are the Uruzu and the Sugi. Uruzu are appointed by an enigmatic group called the Malga and the Uruzu appoint their Sugi family. The Malga are said to consist of 7 members. Let’s dive into the Uruzu and Sugi families of Samsara as they consist of our 10 primary characters.

Manav:

The Uruzu of Manav will be first as that is where our story’s focus is mainly pointed. Manav is a large city at its center with a suburban outskirts. It all takes place on a large mesa, it is at the heart of Samsara with many terrain differences in all directions towards the other towns. Manav’s Uruzu are the Elder family. At the top is their father Enoch, then it is his son and main character, Elias. Elias has a sister named Lilith. At the start of our series, Elias’ mother had passed on, her name was Lily. She was a renown seer and a prominent figure in caring for Manav. Elias’ ability was passed on to him mainly by his father with the ability to teleport. Lily received her mothers traits and her gift of an Empath. Their Sugi family are the Andradas. Unfortunately only one remains. His name is Allan and he has the ability to manipulate gravity. Alan and Elias are really close as they grew up together being close to the same age. Allan’s family lost their lives in the Seers Purge along with Elias’ mother Lily. With a dwindling family on both ends, conflict for the title may happen, and may happen very soon. Close to the family is Master Shi, a mysterious and stern woman who has trained the Uruzu families of Manav for generations.

Asura:

Asura is to the north-west of manav across a large canyon, they sit atop a hill and their city’s lights shine unto Manav as Manav theirs. The bond between these two towns has always been strong, it is in part by the Uzuru that have firmly held their title for many many years. The Kubeba family. A tragic story really, as its blood line only has one heir, Cameron Kubeba. The Kubeba family prided themselves with holding school to train young people to control their powers. However, with the death of Cameron’s parents Jane and Nathan, the school was unable to continue as Cameron did inherit their unique ability of Potential Manipulation, but is unable to tap into it himself as easily as his parents. This is the ability to increase or decrease one’s ability output. Cameron did receive his parents ability to see the future and then some.. He has the unique ability of Psychometry. That is, the ability to touch something and see its past and future. Where it has been and where it is going. Along with Jane and Nathan being Seers, they too were assassinated in the Seers Purge. Leaving Cameron alone to defend the title of Uzuru at the age of 4. He had help along the way, however, from his Sugi family Kana Mamura. Kana Mamura is an elder swordsman and caretaker of Master Cameron. She realized the lone Master would need socialization and along the way of her strict training she took in 5 young abandoned boys. Isaac Usselo (Fire User), Jimi and James Bagyo (Twins and Wind User/ Water User respectively), Sam Kidlat (Lightning User), and last but definitely not least, Cameron’s down to earth supportive brethren Liam Daga (Earth User). They all protect the hilly town of Asura and train atop the hill in the Valley behind Kubeba mansion day and night.

Preta:

Moving south of Asura, past the Forest of Chikusho, lies the Preta Plains. The town is almost unseen as you have to face the cliffs of the Preta Plains to see the beach town of Preta down below! Ah Preta! The Food capital of Samsara. No better food nor access to ingredients.  The food capital of alllll of Samsara. Once every few moons the beach clears out and makes more room for a much larger market event to have a chance to buy or acquire the most rare of delicacies. A calm beach town has little issue, so what would an Uruzu do for this town? Easy, they do what any public servant should do, take care of its people! The lone Uruzu of Preta is the Speedster Khong Nguyen. Khong is one of the fastest people alive and his city loves him. Khong;s parents were lost in the Uruzu Civil Conflict and he had no trouble keeping his titleship for the Nguyen family and its people of Preta. Food is given to him left and right as he takes left and right. The mutual understanding of his metabolism has him constantly eating, as well as it’s people understanding where missing produce may come from…Khong has little patience but is happy to do what he feels is right by taking care of his town. Along with him at his Beach cliff side compound is his Sugi Leon Arlo. Leon, being a technopath, has the ability to communicate with technology, making devices and power plants all to help the city of Preta and its people.

Naraka:

Moving up the cliffs of Preta past Mt. Chikoku to the southeast is the Bay industrial town of Naraka. Naraka is a sin city baby. Gambling, drugs, fighting, racing, whatever it is there is a gambling pool for it and is run by the Uruzu Wayson Family. The Wayson family consists of its patriarch Marcus Wayson. Marcus is an elder man and used to be good friends with Elias’ father Enoch, until they had a falling out in their youth. Marcus has a unique family trait to control more than one Elemental power. He was gifted the abilities to control Earth, Wind and Fire. His mate, Louann who has passed on, was able to control the elements of  Lightning and Water. It was Marcus’ hope to breed and produce children who could manipulate all 5 of the core elements, nothing ever achieved before. Their first born child Bryce, was able to conjure wind and fire, however unable to control his fire and badly burning himself, stays shut in away from the family and has no desire to use his abilities. The wind element makes it difficult to approach the controlling of his fire. Their second born is Cayce. She has the ability to heal via the elements. Her parents once thought she was an Inable (someone with no abilities) and paid not much attention to her. But as of recent to the start of our series, she seems to have the ability to heal. Their youngest and last child is Royce Wayson, our protagonist of this family, he has the ability to control Earth, Wind, Water, and a unique ability of Ice Control. Royce being Marcus’ favorite child, He plans on leaving the Head Uruzu Title to him before the Malga. But this town and its influence would not be for not without the Madrid Sugi Family. The Madrid’s lost their parents in the Uruzu Civil Conflict. With the three siblings, however, we have Manny Ace Madrid, Ben Bigs Madrid, and Jomary Juke Madrid. This prestigious family has a unique ability to conjure Aura Weapons. Each aura color taking the shape of their dominant birthal chi, they are an enforcer family for the nefarious works of  the city of Naraka.

Deva:

Much north of Naraka, up past east of Manav is the daunting size of  Mt. Deva. The Three mountain Peaks are seen far and have formed together into a plain and there resides the town of Preta. It is not able to be seen from above nor from its side as it is protected by magic, there are only two ways in and out. The mountain is surrounded by a cloud that is ever spinning and changing. They say this is the source of the magic that keeps it protected. No one has seen the Uruzu and Sugi family of Deva in years. Not since the bloody Uruzu Civil Conflict. They do not concern themselves with the issues of the rest of Samsara and have a self containing city to themselves where they flourish their own produce and livestock. At the head of the Uruzu family is matriarch Genevieve Mayari. With her telepathic ability and flight capabilities, she rules with an iron thumb keeping her weight known to her children, Libulan and Tala. Their eldest brother, Apolaki, unfortunately, passed away during the Uruzu Civil Conflict. This was what caused Genevieve to enforce a rule of isolationism. Libulan has the ability of telepathy. Tala on the other hand, has the godly abilities of telepathy, flight, super strength, and intangibility. She is our main focus when it comes to Deva and along with her best friend and Sugi Family member Irene Ipadala. Irene is an alchemist and she too, lost her parents to the Uruzu Civil Conflict.
